Day 1: Arrive to Addis Ababa: Arrive in the night time. Overnight – at chosen hotel – Addis Ababa
Day 2: City Tour of Addis Ababa: After breakfast; we drive to the Entoto Mountain for a panoramic view of Addis, Entoto Museum and the old palace of MenelikII (at Entoto Mountain), the National Museum where you can discover different archaeological findings (including 3.18million years old skeleton of Lucy), Trinity Cathedral, Mausoleum of emperor MenelikII and finally Merkato – the largest open market in Africa. Overnight – at chosen hotel – Addis Ababa
Day 3 to unlimited duration: you can choose and tour direction in Ethiopia and then follow the Kenya trip as detail herewith.
Kenya Bird Watching Tour
Day 4: Addis to Nairobi: After breakfast; fly from Addis to Nairobi and on arrival Nairobi; you will be met by our representative and then proceed to Nairobi National Park, an ornithological paradise starter within the city environs. Afternoon guided visit to National Museum Bird Gallery, followed by a short bird walk at Nairobi National Museum Botanic Garden. Here you can anticipate seeing species like the Variable Sunbird, Bronze Sunbird and the Collard Sunbird, African Goshawk, Palm swift, Baglafetch Weaver, among others. Overnight – at chosen hotel – Nairobi
Day5: Nairobi – Lake Elementaita: After breakfast; departure for Lake Elementaita. Bird watching like the feral lovebird, Avocet, Klaas’ cuckoo, Glossy ibis, Black heron, Red billed Teal, Black tailed godwit and others. Overnight – lodge
Day6: Lake Elementaita – Lake Naivasha: After breakfast, we depart from Elementaita for a scenic drive through the Great North road to Lake Naivasha arriving by mid-morning for bird walk. Lake Naivasha being close to Lake Nakuru and 65 miles from Nairobi is freshwater. It was declared a bird sanctuary in 1967 and also supports pastoral industries of wine and flowers. During our full day field trip to Lake Naivasha, we explore the birds of the region such as herons, fish eagles, ospreys, black crakes, and lily-trotters. We will also have an excursion to the Elsa mere Center. Activities include reliving the experience of Joy Adamson and Elsa while viewing “Born Free.” Lake Naivasha being on the Rift floor is home to an incredible variety of species. Over 450 species have been recorded here. Overnight – lodge – Lake Naivasha
Day 7: Lake Naivasha – Hell’s Gate National Park: After breakfast, a morning bird walks with the aim of viewing birds on the shores of the Lake with a few hours of relaxation before lunch. In the afternoon we will visit to Hell’s Gate National Park, which is a breeding ground for vultures in Kenya – Lammergeyer vultures. Her, we also anticipate for species like Imperial eagle, and Schawlow’s wheatear. Overnight – lodge – Lake Naivasha
Day 8: Hell’s Gate National Park – Lake Nakuru National Park: After breakfast, we depart for Lake Nakuru National Park which is known as “The pink Heart of Kenya” because of the millions of Flamingoes that cover the lake with pink shine. Afternoon bird viewing. Overnight – lodge –at Lake Nakuru
Day 9: Lake Nakuru National Park: Today you will spend the whole day bird watching at the park and if lucky enough you will have the chance to see the shy cat “the Leopard” mostly seen in this park. In the afternoon we will have some time to relax and the in the afternoon, we go looking for what we did not se in the morning. Overnight – lodge –at Lake Nakuru
Day 10: Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara: Soon after breakfast, we drive across the floor of the Great Rift Valley the longest Rift in the crust of the Earth to Masai Mara Game Reserve the unspoiled Savannah. Masai Mara is actually the northern portion of the Great Plains ecosystem in the neighboring Tanzania called Serengeti. It is a home to the “big five” lion, buffalo, rhino, leopard and elephant as well cheetah, zebra, giraffe and vast herds of plain antelope and numerous and other wildlife. In afternoon; game drive. As sun starts to edge dip into the horizon it will be perfect time to photograph the beautiful Mara rolling plains. Overnight – lodge – Masai Mara
Day 11: Masai Mara: An early morning bird drive. After breakfast we will be our perfect start of other unforgettable and memorable birding days in Africa. With picnic lunch en-route we spend in Mara Plains exploring 450 bird species recorded in this reserve. Overnight – lodge – Masai Mara
Day 12: Masai Mara – Nairobi – Fly: After breakfast, we drive back to Nairobi. Afternoon; transfer to the airport for your International departure flight (end of the trip).
